Operative Techniques:
Sports Knee Surgery

By Dr. Mark D. Miller, MD

This textbook, and, for that matter, the new Elsevier Operative Techniques series, really represent an operating companion. We envision it being used by medical students, residents, and attending surgeons alike. It can be used as a quick refresher, as a guide to technical aspects of individual procedures, or as an overview for knee sports medicine in general. We have divided 32 commonly performed sports knee cases into four sections: Knee Arthroscopy/Meniscal Procedures, Articular Cartilage Procedures, Knee Ligament Procedures, and Patellofemoral Procedures. Each of us has a special interest, training, and expertise in one of these four areas, and we have tried to share that with you. Each chapter includes rich step-by-step illustrations of individual procedures along with practical expert advice. Careful attention to “pearls” and “pitfalls” can shorten your learning curve and help you avoid learning things “the hard way.”
