Operative Techniques:
Sports Medicine Surgery

By Bruce Reider, AB, MD, Michael A. Terry, MD, and Matthew T. Provencher, MD, CDR, MC, USN

Operative Techniques: Sports Medicine Surgery as edited by Bruce Reider, Michael Terry, and Matthew Provencher is an excellent compendium of knowledge for the orthopaedist, the fellow and the resident in training. It is concise in an outline form that makes for an informative quick read. Each chapter succinctly highlights the critical aspects of the examination and imaging and provides specific indications. The surgical approach is defined from the anatomy to the techniques of surgery. The aspect of positioning for arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, for example, is well illustrated and multiple operative photos define the anatomy. Techniques are covered in a stepwise progression that surgeons will find very helpful. Controversies are discussed and a specific approach is demonstrated. “Pearls and Pitfalls” are provided to ensure surgical success.
