About the Author

Dr. Mark D. Miller is the S. Ward Casscells Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Virginia. He is a distinguished graduate of the United States Air Force Academy and the Uniformed University of the Health Sciences. Dr. Miller completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center and then completed his fellowship training in Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh, under the direction of Dr. Freddie Fu, the current President of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine.

Following his formal training, Dr. Miller has gone on to distinguish himself both in the military (he recently retired as a highly decorated Colonel in the Air Force Reserves) and academic medicine. He has written or edited over 100 peer-reviewed articles and 20 textbooks. He is the Division Head for Sports Medicine at the University of Virginia and team physician for James Madison University. In addition to his numerous scholorary activities, Dr. Miller is also the author of Bible Synopsis and is the Director of the Miller Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation (www.millerreview.org ).
